Clocks in RONIN

So you might have seen the 2016 movie Silence. If so, you know there was a time Jesuit missionaries and their religion were banned from Japan, along with any other foreigners. I've always found that an interesting part of the country's history and I've wanted to base a RONIN adventure on it since I started writing them.

What finally brought me to Kyōzō was a great article about how the Jesuits used Western mechanical clocks — almost exclusively — as a means to gain access to the country's ruling class. That's just so evocative!

In the final form, the adventure starts when soldiers stop the caravan of nuns you are escorting. They've heard there are fanatics of the new god among the women and want to put them to the test. The high priestess convinces you to disrupt the situation to save one nun in particular: Manina, who wears a shroud.

From there questions start to pop up. Has Manina just found a new faith, or is there something more about her? How much does the priestess know about her? And why is there a foreign machine hidden in the nun's sacred litter?
